Intro to Anatomy: The Nervous System and Fascia

  • The Performance Garage 1515 Brandywine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19130 United States (map)

This body-centered workshop explores how your nervous system and fascial network work together to create sensation, coordination, and your embodied experience of the world. You'll begin with the essentials of spinal cord anatomy and the autonomic nervous system, learning how the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches regulate everything from heart rate and blood pressure to your capacity to meet life's challenges or find deep relaxation. Through guided discussion and experiential practices, you'll discover why balance between these systems matters more than favoring one over the other, how the vagus nerve interfaces with your breath and gut, and why yoga practices like kapalabhati, slow flow, restorative, and yin each activate different aspects of your nervous system. A significant portion of the workshop will explore fascia and how this continuous web of connective tissue unifies muscles, bones, and organs.

Through myofascial release techniques and body awareness cues, you'll leave with practical tools to support your own nervous system health, and a deeper understanding of how sensation and movement are interconnected.

This workshop is part of our 200-Hour Teacher Training and is designed for yoga teachers or anyone who is interested in expanding their yoga knowledge and skillset.
