Intro to Anatomy: The SHOULDER

  • The Performance Garage 1515 Brandywine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19130 United States (map)

This experiential, movement-based workshop explores the shoulder's unique design as a joint built primarily for mobility, and teaches you how to cultivate the stability needed to support safe, sustainable practice, especially when bearing weight on your hands.

You'll begin by understanding the shoulder's bony structure through guided asana practice and you'll learn the essential four-step process for shoulder stabilization. You'll explore the critical distinction between superficial muscles like the deltoid and trapezius, and the deeper muscles like the rotator cuff and serratus anterior that stabilize the joint and prevent wear, tear, and injury. You'll leave with practical cues, body awareness tools, and the confidence to teach shoulder stability with precision and care.

This workshop is part of our 200-Hour Teacher Training and is designed for yoga teachers or anyone who is interested in expanding their yoga knowledge and skillset.
