Restorative Extension: How to Use Props

  • Yoga Habit 1640 Fairmount Avenue Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19130 United States (map)

Restorative yoga is a beautiful offering where we allow our students to really land. We use props: blankets, blocks, straps, even sandbags, to help facilitate deeper rest and release for the body.

This workshop will explore the best ways to use these props in a yoga class or for an at home personal practice. Props do not have to complicate things, they should help create more ease and access for both teachers and students. The props enhance the experience and allow our overdoing bodies and minds to do less.

In this three hour workshop, you will learn:

  • How to set up props in a series of restful poses

  • How to apply restorative properties and sequence with props throughout different parts of class

  • How to hold space for others when teaching a class that asks for less

  • An introduction to the neuroscience behind restorative yoga

  • Plus, feel the effect of props in practice in a 40-minute yoga class

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers or anyone who is interested in expanding their yoga knowledge and skillset.

About the Instructor: Stacia Nero is an over-500-hour yoga teacher who has been teaching in Philly and South Jersey for the last 15 years. She found yoga through injury as a teenage athlete and dancer and later as a pathway to heal from anxiety and depression. She has taught and trained in many methods and lineages from Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Prenatal, Aerial yoga, Pilates, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, and Traditional Thai Massage.
