This comprehensive, experiential workshop explores the complete anatomy and physiology of breathing, from the mechanics of inhalation and exhalation to the influence breath has on your nervous system, heart rate, and mental state. You'll begin with the physical foundations: how the diaphragm, intercostals, and thoracic cavity work together to create breath, why volume and apnea matter, and how the structure of your ribs, spine, and your nose shape the way you breathe. Through guided practices like sama vritti (square breathing), ujjayi, and three-part yogic breath, you'll learn to engage the full capacity of your lungs. From there, we'll explore the neuroscience behind pranayama and why breath is used to manage difficult postures.
Whether you're looking to deepen your personal practice, support students through breathwork, or simply understand why breathing matters so much, you'll leave with practical tools and anatomical clarity.
This workshop is part of our 200-Hour Teacher Training and is designed for yoga teachers or anyone who is interested in expanding their yoga knowledge and skillset.
